Pulaski County Earns VACo Achievement Award

Pulaski County, VA – WSLS recently reported that Pulaski County’s innovative “Vacancy to Vitality” program has earned statewide recognition with a Virginia Association of Counties (VACo) Achievement Award.

The program focuses on breathing new life into former public-school buildings by transforming them into housing, senior living communities, and commercial spaces while preserving their historical significance. Through the initiative, the former Pulaski High School was redeveloped into Pulaski Lofts, Draper Elementary School now houses an ice cream shop, and Claremont Elementary School has been converted into a senior living facility. The next project, Dublin High School, will become the 11th school repurposed through the program and is planned for residential redevelopment.

The VACo Achievement Awards program is a competitive annual awards initiative open to local government members of the association. The awards recognize outstanding local government programs that demonstrate innovation, collaboration, and best practices.
