Radford, VA – Radford University recently reported it has been named an Opportunity College and University – Higher Access, Higher Earnings by the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education. This classification highlights colleges and universities that serve a high number of students from lower-income families and provide them with the education and resources necessary to achieve financial stability after earning their degrees. The designation relies on national data related to student backgrounds and post-graduation earnings, reflecting a growing focus on measuring institutional effectiveness through real-world outcomes.
This prestigious recognition places Radford University among a select group of institutions nationwide that are acknowledged for both expanding access to higher education and equipping students with the tools to achieve strong economic outcomes after graduation.
The Carnegie Classification is the leading framework for recognizing and describing institutional diversity in U.S. higher education. In 1970, the Carnegie Commission on Higher Education began developing a classification of colleges and universities to support its program of research and policy analysis. The framework was first published in 1973 and is now updated every 3 years to reflect changes among colleges and universities.
