Pulaski County, VA – The Virginia Golf Ratings Panel has ranked the Pete Dye River Course of Virginia Tech the #10 best golf course you can play in Virginia for 2021. The rankings listed the top twelve golf courses in Virginia that are open for daily public play.

According to the list, the Pete Dye River Course is a par 72 course with championship tee yardage of 7,685. The golf course also came in at #20 on the Virginia Golf Ratings Panel’s list of the Top 50 Courses in Virginia for 2021.

Calfee Park Wins Third Consecutive Best of the Ballparks Award

Calfee Park Wins Third Consecutive Best of the Ballparks Award

Pulaski County, VA – Motor Mile Field at Calfee Park recently won its third consecutive Best of the Ballparks award from Ballpark Digest. Calfee Park, home to the Pulaski River Turtles, was named the 2021 Best MLB Summer Collegiate Ballpark in July. The ballpark also won for best Rookie-Level facility in 2019 and 2020 when it was home to the Pulaski Yankees.

In the article announcing the winner, Ballpark Digest publisher Kevin Reichard states, “Repeating as a Best of the Ballpark winner is extremely difficult. The fact that Pulaski managed to do so even after an offseason of major change is a major accomplishment and shows the community’s commitment to the team.”

Montgomery County, VACarilion New River Valley Medical Center was recently awarded the Pathway to Excellence designation from the American Nurses Credentialing Center. The Pathway to Excellence program focuses on six essential standards of a positive nursing practice environment, including shared decision-making, leadership, safety, quality, well-being, and professional development.

According to Kristi Hall, D.N.P, senior director of nursing at Carilion NRV Medical Center,

“This [Pathway to Excellence designation] highlights the level of nursing quality we have at CNRV. This certification identifies our hospital as an organization that facilitates and supports our nursing staff.”

Carilion NRV Medical Center is one of only eight hospitals across Virginia to be awarded this prestigious nursing designation.

Blacksburg High School Among Top 100 STEM High Schools in U.S.

Montgomery County, VA – U.S. News & World Report ranked Blacksburg High School as one of the Top 100 Best STEM High Schools in the United States for 2021. BHS came in at #94 on the list.

STEM stands for the disciplines of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. To create the list of the Best STEM High Schools, “U.S. News looked at the top 1,000 public schools from our latest Best High Schools rankings, and then evaluated their students’ participation and success in Advanced Placement science and math tests.”

Blacksburg High School also moved up nine spots from last year to rank #21 among public high schools in Virginia. In addition, U.S. News and World Report ranked BHS #981 out of the nearly 18,000 public high schools ranked in 2021. This means Blacksburg High School is ranked among the top 6% of high schools nationally.

In the article, Pulaski County’s Chief Administrative Officer Jonathan Sweet shared what makes it a special place. Here’s what Sweet had to say about Pulaski County:

The article also describes Pulaski County’s plans for growth over the next decade. According to the article, “the County intends to grow the community by 5,000 people over the next decade. Sweet explains, ‘We don’t have to build more schools or bigger libraries, hire more law enforcement, or add more infrastructure to accommodate 40,000 people. We currently have the capacity. It would mean more people sharing the overhead and contributing to the local economy without being a burden. . . . We are creating new jobs, building the housing stock, and shaping a community for that generation of working professionals. We are even putting in certain amenities such as dog parks to accommodate what we think is going to be a wave of young professionals discovering Pulaski County.’”
